working with parents and educators collaboratively is the best strategy to build and enhance strategies of engagement, to tune into each other and positively engage with young people.
Imani means Faith Academy means a place of study or training. Combined Imani Academy offers life long learning and Character development encouraging personal, social, emotional/spiritual flourishing.
Imani Academy was founded in 2015 and launched in 2016. Imani Academy is locally based in Birmingham, but globally inspired. All of our workshops have been piloted with young people, their parents and educators to ensure that we deliver the best service to our clients. Further supported by our life experiences and expertise, in the field of Education, Leadership and Coaching.
Born in Birmingham, England and raised by a fiercely ambitious Mother, Imani spent most of her childhood surrounded by books and culture. From a young age Imani’s Mother encouraged her to dip her toe into different waters, even when she didn’t feel confident enough to step outside of her comfort zone. Imani has always been encouraged to seek new opportunities and broaden her horizons. It is these core values that provided the foundation for Imani to go onto inspire confidence in others and remind them that they do not have to be defined by their circumstances.
Imani studied an Undergraduate degree in Youth Justice at Nottingham Trent University, before going onto study a Masters in Character Education at University of Birmingham. Imani has several years of experience within Primary, Secondary Education and Childrens Services. Imani has volunteered in Togo, West Africa for three months working on sustainable projects with local and UK volunteers. Imani’s time in Togo has influenced her work with Imani Academy, as she was inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit of the local young women in Togo, despite some of the gender and socio-economic issues they faced.
Imani enjoys travelling and exploring and commits to nurturing her own personal, social and emotional/spiritual journey.
Elaine was born, raised and educated in the West Midlands. She attended a secondary school which introduced her to two things a) the harshness of discrimination and b) despite the realities of unfairness, a clarity in her mind that she didn’t have to be defined by it.
Supported by parents that loved her, and importantly told her she should never see herself as less than anyone else and a dogged determination to be the best she could be, Elaine survived secondary school.
Fast forward some turbulent years which saw the sudden death of her mother and becoming a surrogate parent to younger siblings, Elaine studied part-time to gain a first degree in Law. The ethical challenges-of advocacy law saw her make a career change and complete another part-time degree in Business Studies, followed by a Master’s in Human Resource Development
The passion, experience, skill and love for supporting and enabling others to be their best selves was born over 30 years ago and has taken Elaine all over the country, Europe and work internationally…in a range of organisational settings. The opportunity to work in partnership with others wherever they find themselves is still an honour and continues to get her out of bed. Working with Imani Academy is another step in exactly the right direction and is embraced wholeheartedly.
